What to do with an old home?
What do you do with your old home?

As you grow older, your needs will change. The home that was so perfect with children scampering about underfoot becomes monstrously large for you and your mate as you grow old together. The garden that you once loved becomes a jungle you don’t have energy to manage and the honey-do list grows longer and longer you don’t have energy to do it all anymore. What do you do with your old home? Do you have home reversion plans?
One possibility is to move to an apartment and to rent out your old home. To prevent troublemakers, applicants can be prescreened and pay damage deposits. Be sure to have a lawyer help you design a fair, clear lease and to help you understand all the laws involved with renting out your home to help assure years of trouble-free renting. If you live near a beach or tourist attraction, your home may be rented out as a vacation home. Vacation homes tend to attract higher prices of rent and higher classes of clientele than normal homes do and you can still keep your old furniture in the house for guests to use saving you the time and frustration of moving everything.

Bed and breakfast houses are slowly gaining in popularity, especially for retired couples with extra rooms for rent. All that is needed is a well-kept and clean home with spare rooms, preferably with a lovely garden. Many bed and breakfast owners enjoy being paid to keep their homes and entertain guests and see it as an excuse to make new friends and hold lovely dinners. Be sure to check local laws to keep everything within regulation.
If you really just want a little money and to not worry about what happens to your home after you are gone, a home reversion plan could be useful. A home reversion plan allows you to sell as much of your home as you wish with the part remaining in your name being sold after your death with money going to your heirs. You still are allowed to live within your home until your dying day and may do with your home as you always have.

There are many more options than just these available, but hopefully these ideas have given you some thoughts of what to do with your own home. In the end what you do is not important as long as it makes you happy that you did it.
